Voices Rising members were asked to complete the sentence, "When we sing together..." 
Here's what they had to say.

…we overcome our fear of being heard.
…we are beautiful.
…for a moment, we are made whole.
…we belong.
…we feel the joy of the music that rises up from all of us together; we feel a connection to a greater unity that, alone, we cannot create.
…magic happens.
…spirits soar. The troubles of the day float away.
…there are moments when we create something that is more than the sum of us and this something, whatever it is, is powerfully moving, transcendent, and healing.(And it ALWAYS gives me goose bumps!)
 …the world seems like a better place to live.
 …we are united in a common purpose where we can simply be one human family.
 …our hearts beat as one.
 …we are no longer alone.
 …we join our spirits.
 …it lifts me into another place.  It makes me feel outside of myself and deep in myself at the same time.  It makes me feel like a part of something beautiful.  And, it rejuvenates me!
 …we feel a bonding with each other!
 …we develop a respect for the other singers, including their various cultures.
 …we want to get to know the other singers.
 …the world becomes a better place.
 …our spirits soar.
 …we are one.
