Voices Rising is open to singers age 8 and up. The chorus does not require a formal audition, but singers must be able to carry a tune and match pitch when singing with others. Prospective members meet briefly with the Artistic Director to determine ability to match pitch, voice range, and section placement. Youth singers, tenors, baritones and basses are especially encouraged to join!
Each season (Aug to May), Voices Rising conducts two concert terms: Fall term and Spring term. Each term begins with New-Singer Registration and includes at least one concert performance. Members register by term, rather than by season. Registration implies a commitment to attend rehearsals and practice independently to ensure performance readiness. Rehearsals are held Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Oak Hall School lower multipurpose room (1700 SW 75th St, Gainesville). Click Here for a map. Only singers are allowed in the choir room during rehearsals. We're sorry, but childcare is not available at this time.
Member Dues are $80 per term and applies for any and all rehearsals and performances within the given term. For example, the Fall term may include both fall and holiday concerts and term dues confers membership for the entire term, whether singing in only one concert or both concerts. Dues help us to defray operating costs such as venue space, sheet music, artistic director and accompanist compensation, etc. Scholarship funds are available, as provided by supporting donors. Although Voices Rising does not exclude anyone due to financial constraints, we ask that those awarded scholarship pay whatever they feel they can, as a token of their commitment to the chorus. If you need financial assistance, please e-mail our Treasurer or speak with her prior to the beginning of the term.
